Zanzibar combines centuries of Swahili, Arab and Indian history with some of the most beautiful beaches in the Indian Ocean. This trip starts in historic Stone Town and ends with long, slow days on the island's quiet east coast.

Why go

Stone Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site of carved wooden doors, spice markets and rooftop restaurants. On the east coast the tide draws back across white sand and shallow lagoons, and the reefs around Mnemba Atoll are home to turtles, dolphins and colourful fish.

How the trip runs

The first two days are spent in Stone Town with a guided walk and a spice farm visit. You then move to a beach resort in Paje for the rest of the stay, with time to relax and the option to join a boat trip to Mnemba.

Good to know

Zanzibar is a mainly Muslim island; cover shoulders and knees in Stone Town. Kenyan passport holders do not need a visa for Tanzania.
